Auspex Pharmaceuticals is a Clinical Stage company pioneering the development of deuterated analogs of important medicines. Our technology replaces metabolically-sensitive hydrogen atoms with its non-radioactive isotope deuterium to create novel therapeutics with very attractive product profiles.

The central idea behind Auspex is that deuterium substitution results in
a drug that has indistinguishable binding at its receptor.

However, in select cases when the drug is metabolized by a CYP450, a deuterium at the right place can slow down the breakdown of the drug.

We have combined traditional drug discovery with a specific physico-chemical principle (the Kinetic Isotope Effect or KIE) to modulate the Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, Toxicity (ADMET) profile of pharmaceuticals without altering their mode of action.

Using this approach, we replace certain key carbon-hydrogen bonds with carbon-deuterium bonds, and as a result, we are able to increase the metabolic stability of the drug candidate. Depending on the drug class, this can lead to a variety of beneficial effects including longer duration of action, improved safety profile, reduced levels of toxic metabolites and often, reduced inter-patient variability.
